Trainee Independent Financial Adviser (IFA)
Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 (DOE)
Start Date: August 2026 (or later by agreement)
Working Pattern: Office based initially (hybrid considered longer?term)
We are working with a well?established, independent financial planning firm based in Wokingham that is looking to appoint a Trainee Independent Financial Adviser as part of its long?term growth plans.
This is a genuine development opportunity for someone looking to build a career as a client?facing adviser, with strong mentoring, structured training, and an existing client base to inherit.
The Opportunity
You’ll join a small, professional team of advisers and support staff, working closely with senior advisers from day one. The role is client?facing, and you’ll attend meetings, shadow advisers, and gradually take responsibility for your own client relationships.
You will be:
- Gifted an initial client bank of approximately 50 clients (~£5m AUM)
- Expected to generate new business, supported by around 10 leads per month
- Developed into a fully competent adviser through structured training and hands?on experience
Training & Development
The firm has a strong track record of developing advisers and offers:
- Shadowing experienced advisers in client meetings
- Role?plays, internal assessments, and regular feedback
- Weekly one?to?one meetings with the business owner
- Full support with professional qualifications (exam fees reimbursed / funded)
- Clear progression into a full adviser role
Hybrid working may be considered longer?term, but the role will be office?based for at least the first year, particularly while completing qualifications and training.
Client Profile
- Typical client AUM: £100k+
- Client base concentrated across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and the M4 corridor
This role suits someone comfortable working with established, professional clients and building long?term relationships.
Package & Earnings
- £35,000 – £40,000 base salary (depending on experience)
- Commission on initial fees only:
- Either 33% or 50% split (depending on agreement)
- Ongoing revenue reflected through annual salary reviews
About You
- Minimum 3 years experience in an IFA / Wealth Management environment
- Completed the L4 Diploma in Financial Planning (DipFA) or at least only have one or two RO exams remaining
- Local or willing to commute to Wokingham / Berkshire
- Open to career?changers with transferable skills (e.g. a background in sales, training, client facing role, or professional services)
- Confident, personable and motivated to build a long?term career as an adviser
- Happy to be office?based initially and fully immerse yourself in training
